My relationship with RealD began as consultant with the product development team to help commercialize a variety of products. One of those products was the ZIO, a mini-Z polarization modulator (United States Patent D704239) that was poised for both professional and consumer level commercialization. A difference in corporate vision between Senior and Exec level staff put these projects on hold.

*A Z-screen is the name for the device that polarizes the image coming out of the projector in the theater. Inside is a polarizing device that flickers on and off in milliseconds to help you see the images in a way that allow your brain to create a stereoscopic assemblage, hence seeing it in 3D. In the film world, the Z-axis is screen depth. A mini-Z is a table top version used by projectors.
